Lead Through Midlife · Managers & leaders

Managers don't need to be experts. They need to know what to say and what to do.

Most managers want to help and are afraid of getting it wrong. Lead Through Midlife gives them accurate knowledge, usable language and a clear path to the organization's own resources — so a difficult conversation becomes an ordinary one.

Outcomes

What managers can do afterward

Lead Through Midlife builds on the PeriWorks foundation and adds the manager's specific job: conversation, privacy, flexibility and escalation. It is scenario-driven, because managers learn by practicing responses, not by reading policy.

  1. 1

Explain, in plain language, what perimenopause and menopause are and why experiences differ — without assumptions about any individual.

  2. 2

Recognize how symptoms can show up at work and distinguish support from diagnosis.

  3. 3

Conduct a respectful, private, non-intrusive conversation when an employee raises symptoms — or when a manager notices a change.

  4. 4

Apply the flexibility, leave and accommodation options the organization already has, and know when to involve HR.

  5. 5

Avoid the common missteps: unsolicited medical advice, jokes, assumptions about age or capability, and breaches of privacy.

The manager's four moves

Respect. Privacy. Flexibility. Route.

A simple frame managers remember under pressure — practiced in realistic scenarios drawn from offices, production floors and clinical units.

Respect

Take the lead from the person. Ask what would help; never assume a symptom, stage or cause.

Privacy

Keep it between you. Don't repeat it, don't relay it to the team, don't make it a performance note.

Flexibility

Use what already exists: schedules, breaks, environment, hybrid options, leave — applied consistently.

Route

Know the EAP, HR contact and accommodation process. Managers connect people to resources; they don't replace them.

Questions leaders ask

Frequently asked questions

Why "Lead Through Midlife" rather than a menopause-only title?

Because managers lead people through a life stage, not a diagnosis. The program is squarely about perimenopause and menopause, but it frames the manager's job as leadership — privacy, flexibility, respect — rather than health expertise.

Will managers be asked to talk about their own health?

Never. Scenarios are fictional and practice is about responding to others. No personal disclosure is required or invited.

Does this cover employment law?

It covers the practical use of your existing flexibility, leave and accommodation processes and when to route to HR. Legal content is general and reviewed by counsel before use; it is not legal advice for your organization.

Can we run it for a mixed group of managers and HR?

Yes, and it often works best that way. HR hears what managers worry about; managers learn which door to knock on.

Is there a train-the-trainer option?

A train-the-trainer version for internal L&D or HR teams is available by proposal for organizations rolling the program out at scale.

Give your managers the words and the plan.

Start with one 90-minute cohort. Most organizations pair it with a PeriWorks 101 session for all staff the same week.
